Happy Valentine’s Day 2025 - #50!
It has been exciting, but also thought-provoking, to realize we will soon be celebrating our 50th year of marriage this July! How grateful we are to be achieving that milestone! In fact, this has been a year of milestones for our extended family.
We treasure our family and every opportunity we have to be with each of our children and their families and appreciate that (usually) they are nearby.
While much of Jan’s time is still devoted to tutoring, whenever possible time has been spent this year, and the past five, working on books for each grandchild with photos of their childhood and major events in their lives, along with family stories and those of their ancestors. In addition, we have gathered many children’s books over the years and prepared boxes for the future great grandchildren. The latter project was largely completed as of this month.
After working as the church building coordinator for several years, Fred was recently released as he has been having fairly frequent dizziness episodes since Dember along with the ongoing memory challenges. Nevertheless, he remains very active by walking often, with a goal of 10,000 plus steps and often is joined by Jan. He enjoys greatly caring for the property surrounding the condo and helping neighbors with their yards and shoveling as well. He loves doing Sudoku often and playing chess when possible.
Fred continues to gain significant enjoyment from serving in the Denver Temple as frequently as he can. However, as of December he is no longer driving, so he is grateful for the friends who provide transportation to help him attend. He has a goal of completing 1000 or more ordinances within 2025, beginning a few years earlier. Almost every Tuesday Fred and Jan attend the Temple and enjoy serving together.
Jan was also released a number of months ago from her service in the Nursery at church after 40 years, which she had loved. It has been great, however, to be in the other meetings and become better acquainted with members of our congregation. She continues as a Temple and Family History Consultant, which she has also been for over 40 years.
Two of the highlights of the past year for Jan were her much anticipated visits with dear friend, Eve Dror, and her family in the San Francisco area. The Drors and Lidzborski families are so kind to take her on daily outings in the Bay area, and staying at Eve’s lovely “Dollhouse Home” surrounded by fruit trees and flowers is a dream.
Another trip made by both Fred and Jan with Jill’s family that was bittersweet was to attend the funeral in July for our dear friend of 47 years, Claradene Stewart. Sadly, Claradene had not had quality of life for some time and was lovingly cared for by Wayne and her family. We so treasured reviewing the many memories of times spent with her and the extended Stewart family. The funeral was perhaps the most beautiful we have attended with outstanding music and memories provided by her family.
Other highlights and milestones of this year included celebrating the 25th wedding anniversary of Monica and Scott with photos at Washington Park followed by a fun dinner and celebration at the Blue Bonnet Restaurant with over 80 guests.
David, Anne and Sarah moved to Barcelona, Spain for a year in July. Jill, Jared, Jacob and Beckett went to Spain to spend time with David and family and to travel to other locations within Spain and relive memories of their years there as missionaries. Jared had served two years in northern Spain, and Jill spent 18 months in southern Spain. It was especially wonderful for Jacob to celebrate his high school graduation and travel before his departure for Vietnam to serve as a missionary for two years for our Church.
Scott and Monica’s daughter, Lauren, experienced two major milestones near the end of 2024. Lauren graduated from Colorado Christian University in December with a degree in business and accounting. Just prior to her graduation, she became engaged to her college sweetheart, Tyler Parker. They will be married in July of 2025.
Our many enduring friendships of the past 50 years, and before, have blessed our lives greatly. We cherish times past and present with you and have loved receiving Christmas and other letters, cards, photos and emails as well as connecting with many of you on Facebook.
We send our very best wishes for a Happy Valentine’s Day and a year of health and joy-filled memories for each of you. May we have many more together!
Love,
Fred and Jan
