Wow! 2020 was quite the year! Who would have imagined we would run out of toilet paper and food in stores and that restaurants and schools would close?
Family time took on an entire new meaning! I could not be more thankful for the time we spent together as a family this year due to stay at home orders, isolations, and quarantines! Scott, Lauren, Lauren's friend, Sara, and I still got to spend our traditional time in Avon and Vail, although it looked very different this year!
On February 11th, 2020 we welcomed into our home a forign exchange student from Denmark, Sille Pi Sorensen. She had saved up for a very long time to be able to spend her senior year in the United States. Sadly, her time here was cut short due to COVID. She had to return to Denmark on March 26th, 2020. She was able to visit Vail and Brekenridge with Scott, another exchange student from Germany, Veronica, and myself.
Lauren, age 17, is a Senior!! Lauren's first job of John Holly’s Asian Bistro ended when they had to close the restaurant due to the Pandemic. Lauren is now working at Cranellis. Lauren still loves gymnastics! Lauren's first meet during a Pandemic took place on January 16th, at the Douglas County Fairgrounds, where she placed first on bars and first all around!! Lauren will begin her 4th season of high school gymnastics in March. The season was moved because of the Pandemic. Sadly there was no Homecoming because of the Pandemic. Lauren, Kendall, Kyra, Matt, Skyler, and Kaylie created their own memories by dressing up, taking pictures, and going out to dinner. Lauren has continued to volunteer at Cherry Hills Community Church and has had the fun privilege of working with the little kids in Kids Point. She was able to go to camp with her Middle School girls in March before all camps closed. Lauren continues to be involved in several activities! She has continued with FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) virtually of course as well as DECA (prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and colleges around the globe) and was involved in several virtual DECA competitions. Lauren was the Maid of Honor in both June and July of 2020 for Alanna and Dalton's wedding!! They wanted to keep their original date of June 10th, but the venue was closed due to the Pandemic, so they got creative and married in Charlie and Michele's back yard on June 10th and then again on July 17th when their venue opened up for a small number of guests, physically distanced with masks.
Lauren met a young man named Kendall during the High School Winter Revival, in January of 2020. They are now dating!!
Parker turned 21!! Parker was also working at John Holly’s Asian Bistro until they closed their doors because of the Pandemic. He took a job at Wendy's, where he quickly became employee of the month. He was there for a short time and then returned to Mod Pizza and is still there. Parker continues to work on content creation in his spare time. Parker was one of Dalton’s groomsmen in June and July of 2020. Parker still enjoys gaming. Parker’s goal is to work as a Software Engineer one day. Parker is now dating Holly Sparrow. They met while working at John Holly's. Parker and Holly were in a bad car accident on June 27th. Holly sustained a concussion. Parker had some contusions to his abdomen, hips and knees.
Austin had his Golden Birthday, turning 24 on the 24th of January!! Austin worked as manager at Jing from October until March when Jing also had to close their doors due to the Pandemic! He now works for Auto Pay in Auto refinance. Austin got a new dog in March, named Treelo. Treelo was the name of Austin's imaginary friend when he was little. Austin proposed to Elizabeth Poppe on May 31st 2020. He set up the most creative scavenger hunt at Lair O' the Bear Trail.
Nala is our sweet dog. She will be 3 in April. She brings a lot of joy to our home!!
Monica has now been a school nurse consultant for 4 ½ years!! This year has been one of the hardest and most trying as she has had to do all of the contact tracing and tons of Isolations and Quarantines. Parents have been much less kind during these unprecedented times. She will be the high school gymnastics team mom again for the last time. Gymnastics got moved from Fall to Spring, so that will begin in March. She is grateful to again spend this cherished time with Lauren.
Scott was a little bummed that he did not get to do his 8th Leadville 100 race this year, as it was cancelled due to the Pandemic! Scott celebrated his two-year anniversary as a partner of CS Wines. Scott officiated Alanna and Dalton’s wedding in June and July of 2020.
Scott took advantage of the "Stay at Home Orders" to really work on our back yard, side yard, and front yard, including planting or first garden, building a planter, and laying a pavestone pathway. Lauren and I helped a little. The results are just stunning!!
Scott and Monica lead the Multi-Generational Section Community at Cherry Hills Community Church. We had Lee Stroble come preach in December. He did a series, The Case for Christmas! We feel so blessed to have had him visit.
Happy 2020!! God bless you all!
