Jill and Jared - 2024 - #22

The Moyer family has had a busy 2023 and early 2024, as could be expected with seven active boys! Jacob, 18, is now a Senior and decided after many years to give up soccer and went out for the cross country team and had a fantastic season at Legend High School. Even though Jacob decided soccer was no longer the sport for him, he and some close friends, including his brother Titan, are playing a farewell season of Futsal, which they have loved with exhuberance. It has been so fun for Jill and Jared to watch because all the boys absolutely love it!

Jacob has worked as a Life Guard for three summers and may do so again this upcoming summer. He is waiting to hear if he was accepted at BYU. He has been accepted by several universities, but his first choice is being a Cougar. However, he is still considering leaving on a Mission for our Church the end of the summer.

Titan, 17, a Junior, is loving participating in soccer and had a really enjoyable high school season with a coach whom he loves. Last summer Titan, at age 16, drove full-size pickups all over Denver and Boulder working for a landscaping company. He was the designated driver as he was the only one on the crew with a legal driver’s license, even though he was the youngest. They did a little bit of many different landscaping tasks, and Titan learned a lot! He is in his third year of Mandarin.

Titan and Jacob signed up for the Engineering Club at Legend High School. As part of a competition they and some friends designed a board game comparable to Settlers of Catan, with figures they printed using their 3D printer, then painted each figure.

Beckett, 13 and a 7th Grader had been the lone lacrosse player among the boys. He and Titan were invited by their Uncle David and Aunt Anne Hornick to join them and Sarah in Belize for Spring Break…a fabulous trip (see photos). (Jacob was committed to being a counselor at a middle school high adventure camp, and chose to follow through with that commitment.) His 7th Grade STEM trip in September was to Catalina Island off the coast of California. He learned a lot about the animals, snorkling and his favorite, dissecting a squid. They could not get him out of the water! Beckett also did Middle School cross country.

Beckett and Caleb went to Oregon for two weeks in the summer to be with Grandpa Jim and Grandma Judy. They love fishing for salmon with Grandpa Jim in his boats and sewing with Grandma Judy!

Caleb, now 11, is in his final year of elementary school at American Academy, where Jill teaches Middle School math. Caleb’s favorite sport is soccer, which he has played since age 4. He is playing basketball and now is playing Futsal as well. Caleb loves to run and joins in Beckett’s cross country training. He loves doing Family History, which is a joy for Jan.

The triplets, age 9, all play basketball and soccer. The tried flag football and a season of lacrosse. All of the triplets are Lego maniacs! McKade is the family “Love Bug” giving hugs all day long! He will talk anybody’s ear off and has creative ideas, if you will listen! He is always concerned about others’ feelings…example, an injury at basketball concerns him more than the game!

Bowen has matured a lot this past year. He will wrestle anyone of any age who is willing to take him on. Bowen, and also the other triplets, are fascinated with WWII and can quote numerous facts. He loves, loves, loves playing Star Wars, Legos and anything military. He really loves to listen to audiobooks.

Zeke is the sports-obsessed boy of the family and can tell you any football players and team statistics. He is super-excited that the San Francisco 49ers are in the Super Bowl. Zeke has been a card shark since age 4 and regularly beats adults!

During the summer, all the five younger boys participate on swim team and were in many swim meets. The whole family, except for Jacob, went to Utah in July for Titan to attend BYU Soccer Camp. The rest of the family stayed at our dear friend Tami Stewart Ward’s house while they were at Lake Powell. They loved hiking, kayaking and visiting Timpanogas Cave. They continued to kayak frequently at Cherry Creek Reservoir.

Jared is in his third year at Sierra Nevada as a mechanical engineer project manager and engineer. He provides technical guidance and manages resources and schedules. He has coaches the Futsal for Jacob and Titan and soccer for the triplets and Caleb as well as flag football for the boys. He wishes he could swim more, at least in the summer! He now is running regularly since last year.

Jill is in her second year of teaching middle school math at the American Academy where the younger five attend, which goes through eighth grade. Jill keeps the family ship afloat with Jared’s able help! She exercises every day at the literal crack of dawn. Her parents wish she and Jared could get more sleep!

The year that is approaching will be a major change for the Moyers with their oldest, Jacob, leaving the nest. As a “last” family vacation with Jacob still at home, he requested they return once more to Disneyland for Spring Break.

We wish each of you a Happy Valentine’s Day!

Love,

The Moyers
